Many of us have experienced the embarrassment of bright red facial blotches in our teenage years, but acne can stay with any person all their life. Certain skin conditions, such as strong oil production or difficulty in shedding heat can create the unpleasant eruptions of pimples, whiteheads, and zits. There are, however, acne products on the market that can reduce or even eliminate skin blemishes, sometimes with only a few treatments. Though some require a prescription from a dermatologist, many are over the counter and can be found at any pharmacy or health store.
In general, an acne product will work in one of three ways. The oil production that naturally occurs in facial skin can be lowered with clotting creams that close the pores of the skin and render oil glands inert. Others are mild chemicals used to sweep away layers of dead skin that keep your face from being properly aerated. Finally, some acne treatment products go straight to the source with anti bacterial compounds that will kill any biological growth in your pores and stop the body’s natural reaction to irritation.
Ideally, a treatment will do all three of these, though finding an all in one acne skin products is easier said than done. Each of the best acne products functions in one of several different ways. An alcohol-based treatment will work best for oily skin, quickly drying your face and killing any microbes taking up residence in your pores. Alcohol swabs do little to keep your face moist and can be very irritating on bare skin, making it less popular for those with sensitive faces.
Creams and lotions have some of the broadest capability for cleansing. These are most often advertised on television for acne relief. While a cream will almost certainly provide some bit of relief, it lacks the deep cleaning effect that may be required for ingrown follicles or stubborn zits. Creams will do great for cleaning the skin on a regular basis, but lack the punch of other medication.
Anti acne foam may be the most expensive treatment short of professional medication. These, however, attack your skin blemishes in several ways, first constricting the skin to decrease the capacity for oil production. The foam sets in slowly which may take an hour or more, and then pulls away most of the dirt and oil on your skin, leaving a cool sensation that will eventually cause the facial area to return to a clear state.
There are many over the counter acne products on the market today so it can be hard to decide which is right for you. Every person has a different type of skin.
